正式名称：東叡山 寛永寺 不忍池辯天堂
不忍池辯天堂は、天海大僧正が水谷伊勢守勝隆の支援を得て、比叡山麓の琵琶湖竹生島になぞらえて寛永年間に不忍池に中之島を築き、その地に建立されました。そしてご本尊の八臂大弁財天もまた、竹生島の宝厳寺から勧請しました。
現在のお堂は八角の丹塗りのお堂で、中陣の天井には芸術院会員児玉希望画伯による雄渾の龍が、また児玉画伯ご門下の方々によって四季の名花が描かれています。＋
Benten-do Temple
In the seventeenth century. Tenkai, Archbishop of the Tendai Sect, under the patronage of the Lord of Ise. Mizunoya Katsutaka, built the Naka-no-jima islet in the deep pond, and a temple on the small island, and there enshrined an image of Benzaiten Goddess (Sarasvati) of the river to pray for the security, prosperity, and welfare of the nation. However, theoriginal Benten-do Temple was burnt down in World War II, and the main temple was reconstructed in 1958. Enshrined in the small, golden, “gongen-zukuri”-style shrine., as the principal image, is Benten, the goddess of cloquence, poetry, learning, music, art, longevity, and wealth. She has eight arms, with each hand holding a ceremonial artifact to dispel evil and calamity and bring on happiness.
